Far Eastern cuisine is the focus of a new restaurant that made its debut recently in Aiken.

Okinawa Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bowl opened April 22 at 1695 Richland Ave. East.

Oscar Salas is the owner of the eatery, and Frank Salas, a cousin, is the manager.

The location most recently was the home of Sombreros, a Mexican restaurant that closed for good last year.

On Okinawa’s extensive menu are hibachi entrees and combos, bento boxes and cooked and raw bowls.

Among the other options are udon, soba and tempura.

Appetizers include spring rolls, rock shrimp, salt and pepper calamari, fried calamari and skewered grilled chicken.

Also available are a variety of soups and salads.

In addition, there is a dine-in only menu for children who are 10 years old and younger.

La Parisienne update

David Meunier has a new partner in the ownership of La Parisienne, a French restaurant and bakery in Aiken.

Darius Krzywinski, who is a chef, “is my new, old partner,” Meunier said. “He is buying in, and he did pay me something already. I have known him since 1991. He knows the job. He is a pro at what he does.”

La Parisienne serves breakfast and lunch, and Meunier said restaurant is beginning to offer dinner on a regular basis this week.

Entrees include steak frites, steak au poivre, steak tartare, grilled salmon, mussels and chicken with white wine mushroom sauce on a bed of mashed potatoes.

Last summer, Meunier announced he had a new partner in La Parisienne, Trey Bennett. But that collaboration didn’t work out, Meunier told the Aiken Standard.

La Parisienne is at 233 Chesterfield St. South.
