W.B. Wilson, 87, of Hemingway passed away on Friday, March 15. He served on Williamsburg County Council for 23 years. Friends and family say he was a hard worker, a family man, and loved Williamsburg County dearly.

Richard Treme knew Wilson for more than 30 years. The close friends met when Treme was Williamsburg County Supervisor and Wilson was serving on Council.

“W.B. was an influential fellow,” says Treme. “He could get along with anybody.” Treme remembers how the two would travel with their wives to the National Association of Counties meeting in Washington, DC. He says Wilson would get to know everyone on the train.

Wilson was affectionately known as the ‘Workhorse’ for his work ethic. Senator Ronnie Sabb met Wilson back in the 1980s. “I always viewed him as an agent of change. He had a statewide reputation for being a forward- thinking County Council person,” says Sabb.

“Wilson truly cared about people. He listened to people. His passing is a tremendous loss for the community,” says Treme.

Wilson retired from DuPont. He was a member of St. Mark AME Church in his hometown of Indiantown. He was preceded in death by two children. He leaves behind his wife, Verlena Dicker Wilson, and will be missed by his two children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, friends and community.
